It was a perfect day for this adorable couples engagement session. I love how the location and light worked out on the day we did these. This is the second time I've had the honor of photographing this couple, you might recognize them from a couple pictures on my website. There is something about this couple that makes it easy to capture how in love they are in photographs, I guess it must be because all I have to do is tell them to look at each other and they are both instantly lost in each others eyes! The couple wanted to have their beautiful daughter involved in this session too which I thought was a lovely idea. The outfit they had their sweet baby girl in, it's absolutely perfect! I hope you enjoy these images and as always please do not copy, download, or save. If you are a friend or family member contact the couple for images. Text and images are copyright protected. Josh and Sarah, what a fun and sweet match these two are! They are sure to make you smile and brighten your day! It was evident the moment I met them for the consultation that this was a match made in heaven. There is just no doubt about it. This session. Wow. It challenged me! Sarah had requested a bright session with the sun, country fields and slight vintage processing. So different than what I am used to shooting! I used to do sessions like this all the time, but it's been awhile. When Sarah described the ethereal look she envisioned I was a little nervous, I had not shot at the time of day these needed to be done nor had I done processing like this in such a long time, could I still do it and would she like the results? When I finished this order I was all but holding my breath waiting to hear back from her, and I was ecstatic when she emailed me back that she loved the finished results! I hope you enjoy this darling couples session! Please contact Sarah or Josh for prints, and as always please do not save or download these images as they are copyright protected. All rights reserved. This lovely family's late fall photography session turned out well I thought. The muted colors of late fall are not something I am used to working with. I think one of the advantages to them is they help to create a look that will suit almost any color of wall, and the best part, you can get away with wearing colors that you cannot wear in the months when there is more color outdoors. I also like how the people really stand out in scenes with a more muted background. Of course the little mini waterfall at this spot always compliments sessions so nicely. It's been my most popular location this year. It took us a couple tries on this session because of the time of year being so unpredictable with the weather, but we did it. The weather was a little nippy but nothing we could not handle. I'm so thankful for family's like this one that are so easy to work with and will brave the cooler weather with me. And this tween, isn't she just beautiful!? I cannot get over the hair, and those eyes! I've just got to tell the story of what happened on this family's session day! It's too funny not to share. We had so many emails going back and forth trying to work with the weather on this session as it was so unpredictable, and then there were our schedules to coordinate as well, and we finally nailed down a day and time. But uh oh! Somewhere along the lines wires were crossed! I thought we decided on Sunday. Mrs. Panning thought we decided on Saturday. Imagine my surprise when on Saturday as I was going over my kids schoolwork one of them announced "Somebody is here!". I wondered who it could be. When I realized who it was I panicked for a second. Thankfully, my husband was off work that day. Talk about a big relief! He was outside when they arrived and he knew I wasn't planning the session that day so he greeted them and told them he would just run in and let me know they were here. He came in the house nervous, "I thought you were not doing their session till tomorrow?" "Me to!" I responded! "But look at her" I said as I peered out the window, "She's all ready, It is so hard getting ready for pictures, I cannot send them away! please stall them while I get ready?" Thankfully that was not a problem at all, my husband didn't have major plans that afternoon, and he actually knew Mr. Panning and had always enjoyed visiting with him (one of the perks of living in a small community). So get ready I did! In RECORD time! I think it took me all of 5 minutes! One of the nice things about doing this as long as I have is my gear is generally always ready to go. And it was kind of neat, I learned something about my skills this day and how far God has brought me since day one. Normally I spend awhile planning out each detail of a session. But I didn't have that advantage this day and yet it was not a problem. Of course this was an exception and I'll always plan when I can, but it's nice to know that I can do this if need be without extensive planning and still have beautiful results. And check it out! Hedge balls! I am sure the family must have thought I was nuts. I had been wanting to use the hedge balls at this spot since I saw them. But they were across the stream, and it was cold! So first off I had to get across the stream (which is around 15-20 wide) because all the hedge balls were on the other side, then I had to throw them across. Mr. Panning then had to gather them as I threw them and toss them up to the area we wanted them in, it was quite the ordeal! They kept laughing all the while, it was great! But I am crazy about hedge balls, this was the first year I discovered them! I had never seen them before. I love them in photographs, and in my home, at my doorstep, everywhere! I think they are just lovely! I love how they pop against the more muted colors here. Enjoy this sweet family's session! Images and text copyright protected by law. All rights reserved. The sheer blast I had photographing this session was great! Some of these family members came from Nebraska for this session, and I was truly honored I was chosen by them to capture these memories because it had apparently been quite some time since their last session together. They were a wonderful family to work with and I am sure the laughs were echoing around the hills here! During this session I had a personal photography related breakthrough, you can read about it at the end of this post! But for now, enjoy this beautiful family's lovely session, I bet you won't get through it without smiling at least once! And when you are done, go out and throw some leaves! You know you want to! During this session a midst all the twirling, throwing leaves, and laughter, I realized something. For the last year I had a goal in mind of specializing in maternity, newborn, and child portraiture alone. I had worked for a couple years trying to master the art but had just a few rough edges left. So starting last year and over the winter I upgraded cameras to one that would handle low light in home sessions better, and I invested and handmade a ton of props, and I worked very hard to polish up the rough edges and fully master the fine art of newborn posing and portraiture (you can see the results here and more HERE). My hope was to get busy enough this year that I could pass other sessions on to photographers in my area that did not specialize in newborn portraiture and therefore everyone would benefit. But things did not pick up enough for me to be able to do this. I was so disappointed! During this session, however, something happened. I realized family groups are too much fun for me to stop serving! So that settles it. Honing my newborn skills will not be a loss. I'll simply be a better and more fully rounded family photographer then I was a year ago! So onward I'll move, covering the full realm of life from birth onward, all the while helping family's to relax a little and create special memories while I catch those memories for them to treasure always.
