It's been nearly two years since I stepped from professional to hobbyist. The break was good for me. I needed time to re-evaluate my life, priorities, time to work on my health, and gain a better foothold on pretty much everything after my last child was born! I was not planning to start up again this soon. I was going to wait a couple more years in which time I was going to slowly start to build a niche in maternity/newborn and children's photography. but, you know, life just happens sometimes. Sometimes things don't happen the way you think they will, and other things do happen that you hadn't counted on. So here I am. Back. Starting again is a little different then I anticipated it would be. Some things are easier. I know what I am doing this time around, for one. I can remember when I first started, like most new photographers, it took hours to do a session and get 20 good images. Now, I am a little rusty, but I can get anywhere from 20 plus good images in one hour. So that is easier. Same with editing. I can crank out a job in three or so "good" days vs a couple weeks! of course this is also thanks to better equipment and lots of practice! Somethings are harder though. For one, I have more to do these days then I did the first time around, and those 4 o clock editing mornings are rougher then they were years ago. On those mornings I have to remind myself of the reasons I am doing this... but more on that later... Another thing that's an added twist is styles have changed in the last couple years. I kind of stopped paying attention to what was popular a couple years ago. Well, with the exception of watching a couple photographers work that I really enjoyed (Meg Bitton, Keri Meyers etc...-Gaaah-their work is gorgeous)!!! So I have been working hard learning the new trends and where I fit in the midst of them, yet still challenging myself to keep my images unique. Lately I have been a little braver then I ever have before with my style. I have been learning new techniques and trying out some new things. It feels good to not worry so much, to just simply focus on creativity, and have fun. I think, however, that one of the hardest things about being an artist is putting oneself out there. Wondering, "will this image and what I did to it look beautiful to someone out there besides me?" All the while knowing that if people don't like what they see...if it's too different....then there won't be any jobs. On the other hand, if it's good it will be no time before everybody around is trying it! Which brings be back to the reason I am doing this.
My family. I know, we are all used to seeing the whole "I am doing this because I love taking pictures" spiel. And I do love taking pictures, I really love taking pictures! But the honest truth is I am starting again for the same reason I started at all. To work towards a better future for my family. And Like when I started the first time, since I really need to work, there is just no other way I would prefer to do so then by artistically contributing to periodic documentations of the Happily Ever After of family's that come to me, reminding them picture by picture of one of Their greatest blessings in this life.... ...Their FAMILY.

So I knew I was way behind in organizing and sorting my personal pictures, but I didn't realize HOW behind I was until recently. Around two or three months ago my computer began running slower so I decided to clean out some old images. One of my finds was over 700 images from a zoo trip we took in 2012! Seriously. That was two years ago. And of course these were all unedited, RAW images. I trimmed down the cull images and now have 158! I thought it would be fun to share some of the best ones with you all here. I hope you enjoy these! We have been, it's almost like taking another trip back there! If you would like to purchase any of the images in this slideshow as art they are available so please contact me. And please be sure to like my Facebook page! P.S. If I may make a suggestion, if you have children they will likely go bazerk over some of these so call them in to watch the slideshow! |
